Carmel residents deserve a mayor who is ready to lead with a track record of delivering for our neighborhoods.

As a City Councilor and community leader, Miles Nelson has helped Carmel flourish. As Mayor, he will continue this work by:

  • Smart fiscal management that supports our world-class amenities without raising taxes

  • Increased transparency and communication to ensure Carmel’s elected officials are regularly hearing from our residents about what matters most to them

  • Supporting our school system so our teachers and administrators have a partner in local government

  • Investing in high-quality parks, trails and recreation spaces in every part of our city

  • Ensuring our first responders have the best tools and training necessary to keep our community safe

  • Prioritizing infrastructure investments that maintain our neighborhood’s streets and roads

  • Building an inclusive, environmentally friendly city that attracts and retains talent for jobs of the future

  • Partnering on a regional economic development plan to maximize Carmel’s assets and compete at a global level

Transparency matters.

I've already knocked on more than 15,000 doors and heard from many of you about how you feel we need to increase communication between the City and our residents. Here are three simple examples of how, as your next Mayor, I'll work hard to keep you connected.

  • Start a weekly podcast and newspaper column to share directly with all of you what we're prioritizing and showcase upcoming projects and events.

  • Create a new Mobile City Hall that will travel directly into neighborhoods where residents will be able to meet directly with me and my department heads to discuss whatever is on their mind and hear key updates from the team.

  • Launch an easy-to-use app and modern mobile-friendly website to simplify access to city services and make doing business in Carmel as simple as possible.

Standing up for our neighborhoods.

As your next mayor, I’ll ensure Carmel’s traditional neighborhoods are prioritized and that our current residents have a seat at the table when it comes to future development in our city.

  • Preserve the charm and character of our existing neighborhoods

  • Pursue redevelopment in underutilized areas that won’t disrupt current homeowners

  • Protect our environment, increased dedicated green spaces and fully fund our parks

Green Space is Good.

As your next Mayor, I commit to adding new dedicated green spaces throughout our community that provide additional areas for recreation, relaxation, and exercise – and simultaneously protect our city from overdevelopment. Parks and protected lands improve air and water quality, reduce noise pollution, provide habitat for wildlife, and are critical to our physical and mental well-being.

  • Launch a land acquisition strategy (though purchase and donation) to expand green spaces throughout the community, ensuring all residents have access to a maintained green space within a short walk or bike ride from their home.

  • Enhance existing green spaces and forested areas by protecting them from overdevelopment.

  • Create a diversity of green spaces: micro-forests, pocket parks, playgrounds, community gardens, and trails accessible to all.

Supporting Our Seniors

Carmel benefits from generational diversity. As Mayor, I’ll work to ensure our senior citizens remain engaged and continue to make valuable contributions to our community. My kids benefitted from Sunday night dinners with their grandparents and I hope my grandchildren will be at our table for those same weekly dinners as well.

  • Create a Seniors Commission to provide input and advise on city policies, programs and accessibility

  • Partner with surrounding communities to support nonprofit organizations like PrimeLife, which help seniors lead active, independent and enriched lives

  • Develop affordable senior housing solutions that allow our seniors to age in place
